MOULTRIE -- A Funston man was sentenced to 15 years in prison this week for showing a child a pornographic magazine.
Colquitt County Superior Court Judge Harry Jay Altman also gave Charles Samuel Carter, 46, 537 W. Mulberry St., five years probation. Carter entered a guilty plea earlier on one of the eight counts of child molestation against him. The offender stood accused of showing two preteen girls pornography and exposing his sexual organ to them sometime between October 2002 and April 2003, court records said.
Carter is in violation of a 12-year probation, punishment for a child molestation conviction in Tift County in 1995. He initially was charged with molesting a boy and two girls in that case, court records said.
Currently, he has pending two more counts of child molestation in Tift County as well.
A laundry list of charges have been brought against Carter in the last two decades. Convictions include a five-year probation sentence for burglary in 1975, four years prison for a Colquitt County burglary in 1981, two years prison and three years probation for a 1985 theft by taking and burglary in Colquitt County, a fine for a 1987 driving under the influence, and a 1998 Worth County conviction of marijuana possession for which he served two years prison and continues to serve eight years probation, court records said.
