MOULTRIE -- The recent meeting of U.S. Diving's Board of Governors was a profitable one for Moss Farms Diving.
Moss Farms president Camila McLean received another term as U.S. Diving's vice president for administration and coach Ron Piemonte was named to the junior rules committee.
But more importantly, Moss Farms landed two prestigious 2004 meets: the Summer Junior National Championships and the East Junior National Diving Championships.
"We were real excited to be awarded those meets," Piemonte said.
The Moose Moss Aquatic Center was selected from among seven sites considered for the Junior Nationals.
This year, the Junior Nationals were held at the Avery Aquatic Center and Maas Diving Center on the campus of Stanford University in Stanford, Calif. The meet drew some 300 of the top junior divers in the country.
This year's East Junior National Diving Championships were held in Coral Springs, Fla., with 60 teams participating.
"It's bigger than regional or zones," Piemonte said of the East Junior Nationals.
Piemonte said although the Moose Moss Aquatic Center is an excellent facility with eight boards and light, he still was surprised that Moultrie was able to get both meets.
"Moss Farms has an incredible reputation for hosting great meets," Piemonte said. "We get such great community support.
"It's neat. Everybody stands behind the program. There's a genuine pride they have in hosting a meet."
Piemonte said Moss Farms also has applied for the World Championship Trials to be held next April.
He was unsure who would win that bid.
Moss Farms will host two meets next summer, including the annual Moose Moss Invitational, which is usually held Fathers Day weekend.
Moultrie also will be the site of a Junior Region Championship meet, which will be held in early July. U.S. Diving has 10 Region meets.
Piemonte said both meets should draw large turnouts as teams try to get their divers familiar with the Moultrie facility in preparation for the 2004 meets.
