MOULTRIE — Moultrie Technical College came away with gold and bronze awards in this year’s Higher Education Marketing Report national competition in the Technical, Vocational and Business College category. The publication announced the winners of its 25th annual Educational Advertising Awards on Feb. 25.

MTC’s gold honor recognized the school’s 2008 Annual Report publication, called “techbook,” which used a social networking theme to follow radiologic technology program student Kalley S. through her first year as a student at MTC and through her quest to be accepted into the competitive program.

“Much like the daily status posts and photo tags you see on Facebook and MySpace, we used the same concept in our annual report,” Jana Wiggins, MTC’s director of marketing and public relations, said. “We wanted people to want to read this timeline of the great things that happened at our college over the course of that year and to see it from a student’s perspective. Annual reports can typically be boring and drab publications, and we felt it was time to change that up and make it a really eye-catching and interesting read.”

Moultrie Tech also won bronze honors in the Outdoor Media category for its “Get in the Know - Get in the NOW” billboard design created by MTC marketing specialist Denise Brooks. The boards can be seen in Moultrie, Tifton and Sylvester and feature cut-out extensions against the skyline.

With an expanded focus on social networking through the Internet, a second bronze award was garnered for MTC’s “Become an ‘F’ Student!” poster which is used to encourage current students on campuses in Colquitt, Tift, Turner and Worth counties to become fans of MTC on Facebook and followers on Twitter.

In creative partnership with Spark Digital Media Company in Macon, Moultrie Tech also won an award of merit in the Television Advertising Series category for its 2009 “Get the Picture?” ads featuring the live action, hand-drawn artwork of Moultrie artist Andrew Underdown and the life scenarios of three MTC students.

Moultrie Tech was joined by two sister colleges from Georgia’s Technical College System in the national award wins. Savannah Tech and Gwinnett Tech in Lawrenceville also helped put the state of Georgia in the college marketing spotlight.

The Annual Educational Advertising Awards is the oldest and largest competition of its kind in the country. A national panel of judges consisted of admissions marketers, advertising creative directors, marketing and advertising professionals and the editorial board of Higher Education Marketing Report.

This year more than 2,000 entries were received from more than 1,000 colleges, universities and secondary schools. Entries were received from institutions in all 50 states and several foreign countries.

The Higher Education Marketing Report is a national marketing publication for higher education professionals. Now in its 26th year, the Atlanta-based publication is read each month by nearly 4,000 higher education marketers.
