William Herbert Varner
WILMINGTON PARK -- William Herbert Varner, 91, of Wilmington Park, formerly of Moultrie, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, in Savannah.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Helms officiating. Burial will be in the family plot of Pinecrest Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Don Irwin, Bob Gephart, Warren Diesslin, Allen Mitchell, Drew Mitchell and Robert Gephart.
Mr. Varner was born Oct. 19, 1911, in Sasser. He received a BSA in agriculture from the University of Georgia in 1933. Mr. Varner was a soil and water conservationist for Colquitt County for over 30 years, during which time more than 1,000 ponds and lakes were built and stocked with fish. He supervised building the 100-acre Indian Lake from planning to completion. He was a charter member and former deacon of Trinity Baptist Church. He was a member of Lions International for 15 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Annie Ruth Faircloth; and his wife of 24 years, Exa Lennon.
Survivors include two daughters and a stepdaughter, Penny and husband Don Irwin, Mary Ann and husband Bob Gephart, and Jennie and husband Warren Diesslin; eight grandsons, Allen Mitchell, Drew Mitchell and wife Tracy, Robert Gephart and wife Mary Ellen, Jonathan Gephart and wife Corey, John David Diesslin, Joe Diesslin and wife Noreen, Mike Diesslin and Tim Diesslin; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday.
Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
