Maude Simmons Browning
QUITMAN -- Maude Simmons Browning, 89, of Quitman, died Monday, July 8, 2002, at Brooks County Hospital.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, at Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home with the Rev. James Sellers. Burial will be in Sardis Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Davis, Bob Taylor, Jared Boyd, Mike Harper, Larry Richardson and Ron Powell.
Born July 4, 1913, in Cook County, Mrs. Browning was the daughter of the late Buddy and Nina Simmons. She was a homemaker and a member of Beulah Holiness Church in Adel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Browning, and four sons, Horace, Vernon, Chesley and Ferrel Browning.
Survivors include daughters, Rosa Lee Croft of Thomasville, Jeanette Davis of Berlin and Mary Evelyn Taylor and husband Bobby of Pensacola, Fla.; three sisters, Carrie McGee of Cairo, Latrelle Cranford of Camilla and Mickie Hoffman of Toledo, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Austell Browning of Moultrie; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Bembry of Moultrie; nine grandchildren, Rosemary Powell, Robin Harper, Russ Davis, Mike Davis, Debra Richardson, Lisha Hospital, Bob Taylor, Sandy Mudge and Karen Boyd; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Bernice Lavern Brown Copeland
DOERUN -- Mrs. Bernice Lavern Brown Copeland, 69, of Doerun, died Thursday, July 4, 2002, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, at First African Baptist Church in Doerun with the Revs. James A. Pittman and Willie Love officiating. Burial will be in Bailey Chapel A.M.E. Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Deacon Johnny Banks, Deacon Donald Irvin, Deacon Harry Greene, Deacon Willie Daniels, Brother Eric Johnson and Alfred Brown.
Mrs. Copeland was born July 22, 1932, in Worth County. She was a seamstress and a member of First African Baptist Church in Doerun.
Survivors include sons, Julius Clarence Pittman (Annie), James Arthur Pittman (Ann), Boisy G. Copeland (Condeal), Gary L. Copeland (Sylvia), Charles Z. Copeland (Michelle) and Russell Copeland; daughters, Catha C. Smith, Brenda J. Copeland, Willie J. Copeland and Brelinda C. Sullen (John); brothers, Clarence Brown Jr. (Sandra), Murray Thomas; stepbrothers, James D. Howard, Jerome Parish, Gable Parish, Matthew Howard and Eddie J. Howard; sisters, Joann Dozier and Mary Lee Thomas; stepsisters, Betty Clay and Barbara Howard; 48 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two aunts; three uncles; stepchildren, Charles Williams, Ruby Warren, Rosemary McNair, Cynthia Reeves, Tyree Harper, Angela (Michael Brimm), Erwin Harper, Patrick Harper and Byron Silas; sisters-in-law, Annie B. Copeland, Lillie K. Copeland and Carolyn Copeland; a brother-in-law, Charlie Copeland; and a host of other relatives and friends.
