OMEGA — An Omega man was recovering at a Macon hospital Monday after he was stabbed Sunday afternoon.

Jose Lopez, of C.S. Powell Road in Omega, was recovering Monday at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon from a stab wound that punctured a lung. He was first taken to Tift Regional Medical Center for treatment before being transferred to the Macon hospital.

A Colquitt County sheriff’s deputy was called to a house on C.S. Powell Road in Omega about 4:40 p.m. Sunday. When he arrived, he was met by several Hispanic men and an officer with the Omega Police Department.

Before the deputy arrived, he was told Tift County EMS had taken Lopez for treatment of a stab wound. Through witnesses, he found out Lopez and another Hispanic man had been drinking beers at the house and got into an argument.

During the argument, the assailant pulled what appeared to be a knife and stabbed Lopez once in the chest. After stabbing Lopez, the man took Lopez’s wallet out of his pocket and stole an unknown amount of cash. He then fled into the woods, and he was not seen after that.
