OMEGA -- Two more drug arrests were made Monday following three months of undercover work by the Omega Police Department. A total of seven arrests have been made because of the investigations.
Curtis Bernard Woods, 26, of Omega, was arrested around 2:30 p.m Monday on four arrest warrants due to alleged previous drug sales to Tammy Britt, a former undercover officer for the OPD.
"We received information that Curtis Woods was staying in a residence in Tift County," said Britt. "We went to the residence and he was arrested without incident."
Britt and Officer Arel Valdez of the OPD, with the assistance of Major Jack Woolard of the Tift County Sheriff's Office, made the arrest on Woods, who was wanted on two warrants of sale of cocaine and two warrants of sale of marijuana.
After Woods was searched, Britt said, they found a plastic bag containing 15 rocks of crack cocaine. Because of the alleged crack, Woods will also be charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
Another man, Devon Zar'bo Barrett, 18, of Omega, was wanted on a warrant and turned himself in Monday morning. Barrett is accused of taking part in a drug deal involving Charles Simmons, 19, of Tifton, who was arrested for sale of marijuana and cocaine Friday. Barrett has been charged with a violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act.
"We still have more warrants that haven't been served," said Britt. She said there were two more warrants to be served, both of them felonies.
Along with Simmons, four other people were arrested by the OPD last week because of drug charges.
Two of the arrests were the result of drug deliveries ordered by phone Thursday. Britt reportedly called Shawntney Anton Brown, 23, of Moultrie and asked for four ounces of marijuana. Brown allegedly said that he was unsure if he could get that much pot for her, and then another man, Michael Sherrod Kinsey, 21, of Moultrie, allegedly got on the phone and said that he could get her the drugs. He was arrested as he came into Omega and police said that he had the requested four ounces of marijuana with him. He was charged with possession, manufacture or distribution of a controlled substance.
Later, Brown called Britt back and reportedly told her that he also had the four ounces of pot if she still needed it. He too was arrested when he came into Omega and allegedly had four ounces of marijuana with him. He was charged with the same offense as Kinsey.
Melissa Ann Bennett, 31, of Omega, and Shwanda Lacarol Little, 25, of Omega, were both arrested when search warrants served on them allegedly led to the discovery of marijuana Thursday. Both were charged with possession, manufacture or distribution of a controlled substance. The warrants were obtained due to alleged sales of marijuana to undercover operatives and informants.
Another warrant was served Thursday, but did not lead to an arrest because no drugs were found.
The Tift County Sheriff's Office, the Tift County Housing Authority, the Norman Park Police Department, Tift County E-911 and Omega City Hall all helped the OPD in the undercover operations.
