A Moultrie woman was hit by a vehicle during a Fourth of July celebration Monday night. A Moultrie police officer was called to the First Avenue Northwest and Hallmark Drive intersection at 9:27 p.m. Monday about a crash. The officer spoke with Latoya Williams, of 128 Ridgewood Lane in Norman Park, who stated she was driving on First Avenue Northwest about 10 mph when someone ran in front of her Jeep Grand Cherokee. She tried to avoid a collision but was unable to avoid it.

The officer spoke with the pedestrian, identified as Ciera Palmer, of 2050 Geriuan Road. She stated she was walking down First Avenue Northwest when someone threw a lit firework in front of her.

Palmer stated she ran to avoid being injured by the firework, but she ran out into the roadway in front of the Grand Cherokee.  Palmer was taken to Colquitt Regional Medical Center by a family member, and a hospital spokesperson said she was treated and released Monday. No citations or charges were given to Williams or Palmer.
