Polls in Colquitt County will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. today for the Democratic and Republican primary runoff races.
Voters who cast ballots in the general primary must choose the same party’s ballot for the runoff. Voters who did not cast ballots in the July primary can select either a Democratic or Republican ballot.
In the governor’s race, former U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal will face former Secretary of State Karen Handel in the Republican runoff for governor. Deal and Handel came out on top in the general primary, but neither received a majority of votes in the contest.
The winner will face Democratic candidate Roy Barnes, who easily won his party’s primary in a seven-candidate contest.
In other Republican runoff contests, Sam Olens will face Preston W. Smith in the attorney general race, Ralph T. Hudgens and Maria Sheffield for insurance commissioner, and John Douglas and Tim Echols for public service commissioner.
In the only Democratic runoff for the nomination, Gail Buckner will face Georganna Sinkfield for their party’s nomination for secretary of state.
All absentee ballots for the contests must be received no later than 7 p.m. today. Absentee ballots may be mailed or faxed.
