1223 Fire Raffle.JPG

Firefighters from the Moultrie Fire Department recently raised money for the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation by raffling a grill valued at $3,500. The grill was made and donated by Cooper Welding, a company owned by MFD firefighter Jeff Cooper. Cooper and three other firefighters — Michael Carroll, Bo Sprunger and Ryan Wyatt — received the Georgia Firefighters Association Lifesaving Valor Award after pulling Trevor Haynes from a house fire April 6, and Haynes was scheduled to draw the winning name from a basket. When Haynes was unable to attend, MFD Capt. Lavon Cooper did the honors and pulled the name of Gina Odom. Shown with the grill are Jeff Cooper, left, with his award, and Lavon Cooper, right, with a sign for the burn foundation. The raffle raised $4,900, Lavon Cooper said.
