A Tennessee man who ended up in a stranger’s yard Sunday night was arrested after the resident held him at gunpoint until a deputy arrived.

Donald Hayes, 233 Battery Hill Circle, Knoxville, Tenn., was charged with public drunkenness after he ended up at 8:37 p.m. Sunday in the yard of Andy Walker in the 4900 block of Georgia Highway 33.

Walker reported that he heard a vehicle come onto his property, and when he investigated he saw Hayes standing beside a white Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, Colquitt County Sheriff’s reports said.

Walker reported that he asked Hayes what he was doing there once and Hayes did not respond. When he asked again Hayes responded: “You know me, I’m Larry.”

Walker, who did not know Hayes and had taken a gun outside with him, called 911 and held Hayes there until an officer arrived.

The truck was registered in Hayes’ name, but he repeatedly insisted that he did not drive but was dropped off there by his wife.

The officer had no proof that Hayes drove the truck to Walker’s home, so he was not charged with driving under the influence, sheriff’s reports said.

Hayes reportedly was in town for a family function.
