ASHBURN -- The Colquitt County rifle team continues undefeated, although it turned in its lowest score of the season on Tuesday on the road against Turner County.

Colquitt easily defeated Turner 1,118-943 for its fourth straight victory to open the season.

But the total was five points below its previous low score and 28 below its program-high of 1,146 shot at Wilcox County last week.

"We were down a little bit," team coach Lt. Col. Paul Nagy said.

But Nagy said the conditions in Ashburn may have had some bearing on the team's score.

"The place was not well-lighted," he said. "It was a little dim.

"It was not as well-lit as we're accustomed to."

Senior Owen Lamb led Colquitt County with a 283.

Amanda Diehl was second with a 281, followed by Stephen Lawson, who had a 276, and Miranda Dampier, who shot a 278.

The team's two non-counting scores were a 270 by Aubrea Diehl and a 225 by freshman Andy Elston, who was shooting in his first match.

"That was a pretty good score for his time out," Nagy said.

Elston was shooting in place of Victoria Dampier, who had been one of Colquitt County's top six shooters in it first three matches.

Kevin Kimkowski led Turner County with a 246.

Turner's other scores were a 239 by Amanda Tripp, a 236 by Matthews Bohannon and a 222 by Frankie Douglas.

Colquitt's best scores came in the prone position, where Lawson had a team-leading 99 out of a possible 100. Lamb, Dampier and Amanda Diehl each had a 98. The team shot a 393 in the prone position.

Lamb had the team's best score in the kneeling position with a 98. Amanda Diehl had a 93, Dampier a 92 and Lawson an 87.

Again, the team struggled in the standing, or off-hand position, with a team total of just 355 points. Lawson and Amanda Diehl turned in the best standing scores, a 90. Dampier had an 88 and Lamb an 87.

Amanda Diehl leads the team in scoring through the first four matches, with a 285.0 average. Her scores include a state-qualifying 290 against Wilcox County. Her low was the 281 she shot on Tuesday.

Lamb is 10 points back and is averaging 282.5 points per match. He twice has shot a 286 and had a 283 on Tuesday after opening the season with a 275 against Worth County

Lawson is averaging 280.8 and Aubrea Diehl is averaging 279.5

Colquitt County will meet Randolph-Clay today at home.
