MOULTRIE -- The Colquitt County High air rifle team is now just one victory away from completing the 2003 regular season with an unblemished record.
Although still not quite where it would like to be in scoring in the standing position, Colquitt County defeated visiting Lee County 1,123-947 on Tuesday at the Marine Corps Junior ROTC headquarters at the high school.
The victory raised Colquitt County's record to 13-0 with a final regular-season match at Fitzgerald coming up on Thursday.
Colquitt's closest match of the season came on Feb. 6 when it edged Fitzgerald 1,111-1,108 in Moultrie
Following the match with Fitzgerald, Colquitt County will have a break before beginning the postseason.
Area 2 has untile March 21 to determine its four representatives to Sectional competition, which will begin on March 27.
The state riflery championship will be held on April 12 at Fort Benning.
Owen Lamb led Colquitt County on Tuesday with a 286.
Amanda Diehl followed with a 284, Stephen Lawson had a 277 and Aubrea Diehl had a 276.
The team's two non-counting scores were a 274 by Miranda Dampier and a 273 by her sister, Victoria Dampier.
Colquitt County shot well in the prone position on Tuesday, scoring 390 out of a possible 400 points.
Lamb and Amanda Diehl each shot a 99 and Lawson and Aubrea Diehl each had a 96.
The Dampiers also had strong prone scores, with Victoria scoring a 98 and Miranda firing a 97.
Colquitt scored a 377 in the kneeling position, led by Lamb's 97. Amand Diehl had a 95, Lawson a 93 and Aubrea Diehl a 92.
The team again stumbled in the standing position, scoring just 356 out of a possible 400 points. Lamb and Amanda Diehl each had a 90. Lawson and Aubrea Diehl each scored 88.
"We're still coming up short in the offhand (standing) position," said the team's coach, Lt. Col. Paul Nagy.
Amanda Diehl continues to lead Colquitt County in scoring, averaging 282.7 out of a possible 300 in the 13 matches. Lamb is close behind, averaging 280.9 points.
The two are tied for the team lead in scoring in the prone position, averaging 97.8 points per match. Lamb leads in kneeling scoring; Amanda Diehl in standing scoring.
