MOULTRIE — Two people, one a 16-year-old boy, were charged Tuesday in connection with two separate armed robberies.

The 16-year-old was charged for his involvement in an armed robbery at Winn-Dixie on Talmadge Drive Monday night.

The armed robbery took place at the store at 10:29 p.m. Monday when three black males in masks came into the store with guns. They went into the store’s office and stole an unknown amount of money from the store’s safe before leaving the scene.

The 16-year-old was one of the four employees who were victims in the robbery, but Moultrie Police investigator Frank Gay said he helped the gunmen pull off the robbery. The men who robbed the store were still being sought as of Wednesday afternoon, and the case is still under investigation.

In another arrest, Moultrie police officers charged a man with several offenses, including armed robbery, following a foot chase Tuesday afternoon.

John Leon Strong Jr., 25, of Moultrie, was charged Tuesday with armed robbery, burglary, obstruction, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. The armed robbery and burglary charges were from an incident June 28 in which Strong and another man allegedly stole $350 cash from Demetrius Davis at his home on Ninth Street Southwest.

An officer spotted Strong while on patrol on First Avenue Southwest at 1:59 p.m. Tuesday. The officer followed Strong, seeing him throw various items out of his pockets, including a loaded Jennings .22-caliber handgun.

The officer caught up with Strong on Third Avenue Southwest and placed him under arrest. Police said the officer found a brown bag that had seven plastic bags of marijuana inside.
