TIFTON — The Presidential Search and Screening Committee will send three to five names of approved candidates in unranked order to the Board of Regents of the University System this week as the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College presidential search continues.

Five candidates interviewed on campus over the past two weeks. After the interview process culminated, the search committee held two meetings to read comments from those attending the sessions and discuss the candidates. A special Regents Committee chaired by Regent Julie Hunt of Tifton will now meet to continue the interview process to choose the 10th president in the history of ABAC.

The presidential announcement is expected to take place in late April, and the president is expected to take office on or before July 1.

Candidates that interviewed for the position of president included Teresa Smith, Elazer Barnette, Cathy Rozmus, Amelia Pearson and David Bridges.

The new president will take the place of Mike Vollmer, who resigned from the post on Sept. 14, 2004, to become commissioner of the Department of Technical and Adult Education for the State of Georgia. Tom Call has served as the interim president since that time.
