MOULTRIE — Two Colquitt County men were sentenced Tuesday in the death of Shedrick O. Bonner, whose body was found near a footpath in Moultrie in March 2007.

Jerrod L. Blackwell, 20, of Ellenton, pleaded guilty Tuesday to voluntary manslaughter, after a June 2008 trial was continued. That followed a ruling by Superior Court Judge James E. Hardy in April 2008 placing a gag order prohibiting court officials, jurors and law enforcement from discussing the case.

The other defendant in the case, Ktherius D. Johnson, 19, of Moultrie, pleaded guilty in August 2007 to voluntary manslaughter, but sentencing was delayed until the disposition of Blackwell’s court case.

Blackwell was sentenced Tuesday by Hardy to serve 15 years in prison and five years on probation, as well as pay a $2,000 fine. He also was ordered to have no contact with Bonner’s family.

Johnson was sentenced to serve 11 years in prison and nine years on probation and pay a $2,000 fine. He also was ordered to have no contact with Blackwell or the Bonner’s family.

The two men, who were 18 and 17 when Bonner was slain, were indicted in June 2007 on counts of murder and armed robbery, and two counts each of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

According to court documents, the motive for the assault on Bonner was to rob him of ecstasy pills.

Bonner’s body was found March 17 near a footpath in the woods off the bike trail close to the Moultrie Police Department.

When Johnson entered his plea in 2007, he told the court that Blackwell had the gun used in the shooting of Bonner.

Prior to the slaying, Bonner had been charged with aggravated assault in a June 2006 in a shooting at Shy Manor Terrace apartments in Moultrie. Eddie Sanchez Martin died in the shooting spree, which also wounded two other people and left four apartments riddled with bullets.

Charges against Ponikarski Green and Brykece Suggs, who had been charged with murder in the Shy Manor shooting, were dropped because Bonner was a key witness in the case.
