A Moultrie man was hospitalized after being shot in the head by an unknown person Monday night.
Moultrie Police Criminal Investigations Section Commander Alfonzo Cook said Johnny Chester, 37, of Moultrie, was shot outside a building at Forest Creek Apartments on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. He was taken to Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville, and he was listed in critical condition Tuesday afternoon.
A Moultrie police officer was called to the apartment complex at 11:06 p.m. Monday about the shooting, Cook said. When the officer arrived, Chester was found shot, and a witness stated Chester had left the apartment for only a short time when they heard a gunshot.
Cook said it was not known what led to the shooting taking place, and investigators are working on leads to determine a suspect. Investigators from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation were called in to assist with the investigation and were at the scene of the shooting Tuesday afternoon.
Details of the shooting remain sketchy, and Cook said anyone with information is asked to call the Moultrie Police Department at 985-3131 or the anonymous tip line at 890-5451.
