MOULTRIE — Several Moultrie businesses spent some time in the dark just before lunch Friday.

City of Moultrie Utilities Director Roger King said power went out to several businesses in and around the downtown Moultrie area, including The Observer, about 11:15 a.m. Friday. The area around Beadles Lumber Co., on Sixth Street Northeast, was also affected. All power was fully restored about a half hour later.

The reason for the power outage was the temporary loss of two power circuits, King said. Electricity was being transferred from one substation to a new substation, but the transfer was ended too soon, causing the circuit loss. Crews worked quickly to restore the power.

“We had crews at the scene,” King said, “so they got right on fixing the problem.”

The primary areas affected by the outage were around Beadles Lumber and along North Main Street, King said. Stringfellow Elementary School and banks along South Main Street were also affected, however.
