A Moultrie woman died Thursday morning in a one-vehicle accident that the Colquitt County coroner attributes in part to rain.

Yvonne Ford, 75, of John Buck McCoy Road, was driving toward Moultrie on Old Berlin Road about 10 a.m. when she apparently missed a curve a short distance from Tallokas Road, Coroner Verlyn Brock said. He said she appeared to have jerked the wheel to try to get back on the road but could not get traction on the wet grass. The car flipped, he said.

“She was headed to the doctor’s office, had a 10:40 appointment, and that’s as close as she got,” Brock said.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where she was a member. For full obituary information, click the link at right.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident, but the GSP report was not ready Thursday afternoon, a spokeswoman said.

In an unrelated accident, a Moultrie woman was injured Wednesday afternoon.

Leona Jean Merck, 3193 Sumner Road, was treated and released from Colquitt Regional Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Moultrie police said Randolph Andrews, of Bainbridge, was driving out of the Raceway gas station on Veterans Parkway at North Main Street when Merck was driving in.

Andrews told the reporting officer Merck was trying to beat oncoming traffic as she made a left turn into the parking lot. He was making a left turn as he exited it, and the front of his 2002 Nissan Frontier struck the driver’s side of her 1984 GMC C1500.

Both vehicles sustained slight damage and were driven away, police said.

Andrews was charged with failure to yield when entering or crossing a roadway.
