The Weather Channel has issued a Snow Alert for Wednesday in Moultrie.

The alert says the chance of precipitation is 30 percent and even if it does snow there won't be accumulation, but just 24 hours ago meteorologists were saying snow wouldn't come this far south at all.

The Weather Channel predicts a high of 36 that day with a low of 25.

Even without the possibility of snow, weather agencies had already issued a Winter Storm Warning through 1 p.m. Wednesday as the region prepares for rain mixed with sleet today and freezing rain, sleet and now possibly snow all mixed together starting before dawn Wednesday.

Emergency officials warn residents to stay off the roads Wednesday if at all possible.

Schools in neighboring counties have already announced closures — some of them are closed today — and the Colquitt County Schools are expected to make a decision about noon whether to close here on Wednesday.
