A man allegedly was caught “red-handed” in a metal theft after deputies were summoned after residents in the area saw a suspicious vehicle in a remote part of the county.

Jamerson Michael Strickland was taken into custody Tuesday after the deputies found him with a trailer loaded with a diesel motor, sheriff’s reports said.

Neighbors on or near Norris Road had seen a suspicious vehicle in the same area last week, Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office investigator Mike Murfin said Thursday.

On Tuesday the same vehicle was seen going to the end of the road where there are only fields and a barn.

“Deputies went back there and they were loading up a big old motor on a trailer,” Murfin said. “They pretty much caught them red-handed.”

Strickland, 23, 1413 Hutchinson Drive, was charged with theft by taking.
