TIFTON, Ga. — A Tifton man has been arrested in connection to the accidental shooting on Monday of a one-year-old, according to a press release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Dewayne McClatchey Jr., 22, has been charged with reckless conduct, cruelty to children in the second degree, tampering with evidence and giving false statements.
According to the release, deputies from the Tift County Sheriff’s Office responded “in the late evening hours” to a residence in the 100 block of Apricot Street in reference to a report of a child being shot on Monday, Oct. 8.
The child was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was airlifted to a children’s hospital in Tallahassee, Fla. The report states that the child is currently listed in serious condition.
According to the report, investigators learned that McClatchey was present at the residence at the time of the shooting and he was taken into custody near the incident location. He was charged on Thursday, Oct. 10, by the GBI and TCSO.
