A Norman Park man was jailed Tuesday on robbery charges about an hour and a half after a robbery at a convenience store in that city.

Kenneth Dwayne Powell, 21, of Norman Park, was taken into custody on Horne Street, a few blocks from the One Stop where the robbery occurred, Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office investigator Shawn Bostick said.

Property taken in the robbery was recovered from Powell’s residence, he said.

“A suspect entered the store and grabbed money from the register,” Bostick said. “He tried to conceal his identity partially.”

The robber went behind the counter at about 8:30 p.m., holding his hand as if he had a weapon but never represented that he had one, Bostick said. The clerk hit the store’s panic button.

After viewing videotape officers got an idea of his appearance and were able to arrest Powell at about 10 p.m.

Powell was charged with robbery.
