MOULTRIE — A 19-year-old Colquitt County teen was killed in an ATV accident on Tuesday, and the driver faces charges in connection with the death.
Jenna Kate Tucker was pronounced dead at Archbold Memorial Hospital, Colquitt Coroner Verlyn Brock said, after being airlifted from Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
“It’s just a tragic thing,” he said. “Apparently he flipped it and (it) turned over on top of her.”
The accident occurred on China Grove Church Road, he said, and the Georgia State Patrol was in charge of the investigation. Alcohol and excessive speed are suspected factors in the wreck, Sgt. 1st Class Tommy Peeples said. Gatlyn Michael Peacock, 18, was in custody on Wednesday and charges are pending.
The accident occurred at around 8 p.m. on the private dirt road, he said.
“The driver attempted to negotiate a left-hand curve,” he said. “He was going to fast for conditions.”
The ATV traveled up an embankment after leaving the roadway.
“That caused it to turn over on the passenger side, ejecting the passenger (Tucker) and trapping the passenger under it,” Peeples said.
