NORMAN PARK — A Norman Park teen-ager was taken to Colquitt Regional Medical Center Friday night after he was accidentally shot in the arm.

A Colquitt County sheriff’s deputy was called to Colquitt Regional after the 16-year-old boy came in with a gunshot wound. A hospital spokesperson said the boy was treated for his injury and released Friday.

The deputy’s report said the 16-year-old and a friend were playing with some guns that the friend brought to the 16-year-old’s aunt’s house on Charm Street in Norman Park about 8:45 p.m. Friday. The boys stated one of the guns accidentally went off, hitting the 16-year-old in the right arm.

The 16-year-old told the deputy he did not know where the guns came from.

Because the incident happened inside Norman Park, it was initially investigated by the Norman Park Police Department. The deputy did not speak with the 16-year-old’s friend or his father, who was at CRMC with his son.

Norman Park Police Chief Larry Jenkins said Tuesday, however, that he had turned the case over to the sheriff’s office for investigation.
