MOULTRIE — Three men were apprehended after they were allegedly involved in the attempted theft of three wigs Tuesday evening.

Reginald Leon Jenkins, 41, of 2312 Evergreen Drive in Albany, Jameria Tremese Ward, 19, of 145 Quail Ridge Road, and Jaris Tashon Henry, 27, of 424 Third Ave. N.W., were each charged with theft by shoplifting. Jenkins was also charged with public drunkenness.

A Moultrie police officer was called to Da Max on Talmadge Drive about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday about a possible armed robbery that had just happened. As the officer arrived, he saw a man, later identified as Jenkins, running across First Avenue Southeast and getting into a Volkswagen Jetta. The officer got in front of the car and stopped it nearby, and Jenkins and the other occupants, identified as Ward and Henry, were all placed under arrest.

The officer spoke with the owner of the store, and he stated Jenkins allegedly grabbed three packs of hair wigs, valued at $25.65, and ran out of the store. He followed after Jenkins but could not catch him. He said Jenkins allegedly kept reaching for something in his waistband while in the store. The officer did not find any weapons on Jenkins following his arrest.

Jenkins, Henry and Ward were then taken to Colquitt County Jail. Police said Jenkins had alcohol in system at the time of the incident.
