MOULTRIE, Ga. — On Nov. 12, family practitioners, OB/GYNs and others who work in prenatal care from Southwest Georgia gathered for an Obstetrics Simulation Showcase at PCOM South Georgia in Moultrie. The attendees learned how virtual reality and simulated cases are being used as teaching tools for medical students. Joanne Kakaty-Monzo, DO, the academic chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) in Philadelphia, discussed such topics as how virtual reality can help practitioners visualize and practice ways to resolve shoulder dystocia, a complication of childbirth. In addition, she shared research in the area of caring for preterm infants.
