Between 2013 and 2017, lung cancer was the No. 3 cause of death in Colquitt County. Colon cancer was No. 14. With two of the top 15 causes of death being cancer, the eradication of the disease would be a godsend for our community.
That’s what Relay for Life is trying to do.
Relay for Life is a walk-a-thon style fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Colquitt County’s event will take place 6-10 p.m. Friday at the county Ag Complex on Veterans Parkway. Its theme is “Cancer: Not here, not there, not anywhere.”
The American Cancer Society is tracking donations on its website. Now, just days before the event, those donations are only about one-third of the $40,000 goal.
Donations to the American Cancer Society, including through Relay for Life, help fund groundbreaking cancer research and patient care programs.
