My visit with [an employee] at our Colquitt County Health Department gave me disturbing information on exactly how the district office in Albany dropped our septic tank licensing employees because of a single lawsuit on a bad septic survey.
The Colquitt County Health Board had to agree to the change before the district office could make the change. Mr. Robert Cobb is the chairman of our Health Dept.
Our Local office does not control prices charged by the 119 geology engineers approved by the district office and our own County health dept, chaired by Mr. Cobb. A homeowner said he paid the geology engineer $800 — approved by the state of Georgia. A single lawsuit does not warrant passing such cost to the homeowner.
I find it hard to believe that the citizens of this county are in favor of accepting higher cost for a septic tank permit. I favor dumping the board’s decision to go along with the district office in Albany. (To linger in bliss will not yield good government.)
