The public has asked some very legitimate questions in our Rants and Raves column, relative to unlicensed and uninsured drivers.

The predominant question has been, how do illegal, unlicensed and uninsured people actually purchase a vehicle? And how do they get a tag?

Should we assume that there is some bogus paperwork involved. So does that mean we have someone locally manufacturing this paperwork?  What processes must one go through to sell a vehicle from a commercial vantage point to insure that the person has a legitimate license, insurance, etc.

We know that our insurance rates are factored regionally which is greatly determined by the number of accidents, etc.  Therefore, whether we are involved in an accident or not, we are impacted.

What are the legal implications of allowing unlicensed drivers to use your vehicle? Certainly there must be some liability there?

Given the number of these incidents in our local crime reports, perhaps, as someone has suggested in Rants and Raves, it’s time for the Colquitt County Grand Jury to look into this matter.
