Colquitt County’s 12-and-under all-star baseballteam has won its first two games in the GRPA state tournament in Thomson and with a victory today against Summerville today, it will play for the championship on Saturday.

Colquitt County won its opener on Wednesday night, defeating Lyons 9-5.

The all-stars received outstanding pitching in the game from Austin Craven, Gage Kent and Wheeler Hunnicutt and pounded out 10 hits, including a home run by Ian Brinson.

Craven got the start and went the first 4 1/3 innings, giving up no runs and three hits. He struck out five.

Kent and Hunnicutt finished up.

 Hayden Bledsoe and Logan Wheeler led the offense with two hits each.

Craven, Hunnicutt, Buck Blalock, Geoffrey Zeigler and Chason Fannin each one hit.

The victory sent Colquitt County into a second-round game on Thursday against Ware County.

Again, the all-stars were the beneficiaries of strong pitching.

Bledsoe started and and went the first three innings, giving up just two hits and striking out four.

Austin Singletary and Hunnicutt combined to pitch the fourth inning and did not give up a hit.

Blalock finished up, pitching the fifth and sixth innings, allowing two hits while striking out five.

Home runs accounted for all five Colquitt County runs.

Hunnicutt, Blalock and Singletary each hit solo homers and Bledsoe had a two-run shot.

Bledsoe, Singletary and Fannin also added singles.

“Ware County gave us a run for our money today,” coach Joey Brinson said. “But our pitchers have done a great job.”

Colquitt County will face Summerville at 10 this morning in the final winners bracket game.

Summerville opned with a victory over Thomson and won again at noon on Thursday to set up its meeting with Colquitt County.

The championship game is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday. The if game is scheduled for noon.

Colquitt County’s 14-and-under all-stars, which defeated Washington County 13-1 on Wednesday, lost to Wayne County on Thursday to fall into the losers bracket of the state tournament, also being held in Thomson.

The championship game is scheduled for Saturday.
