MOULTRIE -- Although they won just two of four games, the Georgia Black Sox, an 11-and-under team made up of Colquitt County players, won the USSSA 2006 Qualifier tournament in Leesburg recently.

The Black Sox opened with a 6-1 loss to the South Georgia Venom, a 12-and-under team from Valdosta.

Tyler Yost started and took the loss, striking out three and allowing five hits. Aubrey McCarty also worked on the mound, allowing two hits and striking out three.

The Black Sox had just four hits in the game, including two by Matt Gerald and one each by Blake Bennett and Andrew Eunice.

The team turned two infield double plays in the game.

The Black Sox also lost their second game, falling 5-3 to Middle Georgia Dawgs of Perry.

Matt Gerald took the loss, allowing five hits and striking out six. Daren Kent also pitched, allowing no hits. Dustin McAlpin finished up, giving up one hit and striking out two.

Again the Black Sox had four hits. Kent had two. McAlpin and McCarty had the others.

In their third game, the Black Sox erupted, defeated Albany's Traveling Angels 28-5.

Yost got the win, giving up four hits and striking out four. Preston Berry pitched on inning and did not give up a hit and struck out one.

Bennett and Garrett Pearce led the Black Sox with three hits each. Kent, McCarty, Eunice, Gerald and Dillon Frazier each had two hits. Yost, Berry each had one hit.

Eunice drove in three runs. Kent, McCarty, Frazier and Pearce each had two RBIs. Kent and Pearce each had a double.

In the championship game, the Black Sox beat the Traveling Angels again, this time by a 15-0 score.

McCarty ended the game with a two-run walkoff home run.

McAlpin was the winning pitcher, allowing just two hits and striking out a pair.

McCarty had two other hits, including a double, and drove in four runs. Kent had three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs.

McAlpin, Yost and Berry each had two hits. Bennett, Frazier, Eunice and Pearce had the others. Eunice had a triple and Yost added a double.

Kent led the Black Sox in the tournament with seven hits. McCarty had six and led the team is seven runs batted in.
