The Colquitt County boys tennis team will travel to Sharpsburg on Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. first-round Class AAAAAA match against Region 3 champion East Coweta.

The Packers will take an 11-10 record into the match against the Indians after winning one of three matches in the Region 1-AAAAAA tournament to finish fourth.

The Packers defeated Tift County in the first round, but then fell to Coffee and Camden County.

East Coweta claimed the Region 3 title with a 5-0 victory in the tournament finals over Newnan, which had defeated the Indians twice during the regular season by 3-2 scores.

The Indians have three seniors playing singles and two of them won on tie breakers against Newnan.

At No. 1, Matt Byers defeated the Cougars William Ballou 3-6, 7-5, 10-8.

Moises Escobar, playing No. 3, beat Mikey Miller 6-2, 2-6, 11-9.

At No. 2 singles, Mitchell Corley won over Landon Goolsby 6-4, 7-5.

East Coweta’s No 1 doubles team of twin brothers Oliver and Andy Truong won 6-1, 6-0 over Stewart Rand and Sam Thomas.

Dalton Ayers and Bennett Souter beat Nick Smith and Jun Kwon 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

With its region runner-up finish, Newnan will play host to Lowndes, Region 1’s No. 3 team.
