It took 77 minutes, but the Colquitt County boys soccer team finally got the goal to put away a determined Valdosta team 1-0 on Wednesday at Packer Park.
The victory raises the Packers record to 5-3-2 overall and 2-1 in the Region 1-AAAAAA standings.
Valdosta falls to 4-4-2 overall and 0-3 in the region.
"We played in front of their goal the entire match," Colquitt County Coach Jimbo Jarvis said. "But they packed it in on defense and their goalie did a great job. If it wasn't for him, it would have been a different game."
Wildcat keeper Adam Murphy denied the Packers numerous times.
But Colquitt finally broke through with three minutes left in the match when Josh Smith chipped the ball over Murphy's head. The ball took one bounce and went into the net.
The Wildcats will play host to Lowndes on Tuesday.
The Packers will be off until Friday, March 28, when the Vikings visit Packer Park.
