The Colquitt County girls and boys tennis teams traveled to Valdosta on Tuesday and came back with victories in their first Region 1-AAAAAA matches of the season.
The Colquitt County boys raised their overall record to 6-3 with a 3-2 victory over the Wildcats.
The Packers took both doubles matches and got a win from Lance Shealy at No. 3 singles to knock off the Valdosta boys.
Nick Nichols played No. 1 singles and fell 1-6, 7-6(7-2), 2-6. At No. 2 singles, Cody Jenkins lost 2-6, 4-6.
Shealy won 6-0, 6-0.
With Jeremy Johnson nursing a sore hand, Jack Holloway teamed with Nick Mobley at No. 1 doubles to take a 6-2, 6-3 win.
Drew Davis and George Zeanah won at No. 2 doubles 6-2, 6-3.
Packers coach Chris Naquin was pleased with the play of Zeanah, especially at the net.
The Lady Packers won 5-0 to raise their record to 5-4.
Conley Ward defeated Krupa Dwdani 7-5, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles, Haley Trebony won over Ally Orenstein, 6-3, 7-6(8-6). Courtney Terrell defeated Abby Simmons at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2.
At No. 1 doubles, Anna Barber and Shelby Thomas beat Aneesha Chowdhardy 6-1, 6-0.
Rachel Bostick and Desirae Cash defeated Tanisha Bhavnani and Josie Smith 6-4, 6-3.
In extra matches, Shianna Corley won 8-1; Carey Tyler won 8-1; Tanna Knight won 8-0; Mary Margaret Lewis won 6-0; Anna Williams and Heather Dunn won 8-1; Faith Hall and Lauren Coop won 8-0; Macy Ward and Nakia Johnson lost 0-8; and Fatehah Thomas and Vicky Davis won 6-3.
The Packers and Lady Packers will jump back into the region schedule on Friday when they play host to Camden County at 4 p.m. at Packer Park.
Both Colquitt County teams lost to Camden County in the Chick-fil-A Invitational in Tifton on Feb. 7-8, with the Lady Cats winning 5-0 and Wildcats winning 4-1.
