MOULTRIE -- Colquitt County's Jamal Hayes won the 400 meters in the track meet in Douglas on Tuesday and his name is starting to be mentioned among the top runners in the state.
Hayes's best time in the 200-meter dash is a 21.84, the fourth-best in the state this year. Redan's Justin Oliver has a 21.63.
The Packer's 49.94 in the 400 meters is seventh-best in the state.
Cedric Goodman of Newnan has posted a 45.94.
Hayes has finished first in the 400 meters in three meets this season and has won the 200 meters twice.
His 21.59 at the Viking Invitational set the meet record.
Also this season he has won the 100 meters at Lowndes; the long jump at Lowndes; and the 800 meters at Lowndes.
He also has run as a member of a first-place 4x400 relay team.
Also on Tuesday at Coffee, Hope Moore was first in the triple jump; Alyson Aldridge won the 3,200 meters and 1,600 meters; Will Blackburn won the 1,600 meters and the foursome of Bud McNeal, Dantrell Hunt, Curtis Jackson and Dejuan Johnson won the 4x400.
Natoya Jones and C.A. Sanders took second-place finishes in the discus. Hunt was second in the long jump; Moore was second in the 300-meter hurdles; Blackburn was second in the 3,200 meters; and Megan Pugh was second in the 1,600 meters.
Jamal Carr, Dannie Hunt, Jacolby King and Malcom Davis were second in 4x400.
Third-place finishes went to Nikki Hudson, discus; Joe Peacock, 800 meters; Quinton Waters, 1,600 meters; Sanders, shot put; and Jackson, triple jump.
