The Colquitt County junior varsity tennis teams split a pair of matches at Lowndes on Wednesday.

The JV Packers won 5-0.

The match was played using short sets.

At No. 1 singles, Ashton Owens won 6-3, 7-6(8-6). At No. 2 singles, Aaron Chui won 6-4, 6-2. And at No. 3 singles, Owen Harrell won 6-3, 5-7, 10-2.

Rusty Watson and Joseph Gould played No. 1 doubles and won 6-2, 6-2.

Ryan Merritt and John Buck Eunice won at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 6-2.

In extra matches, Lyle Tostenson and Jacob Holston won 6-2, 6-3; Rusty Watson won 6-3, 6-7(15-17), 10-6; and Aaron Chui won 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

The junior varsity boys team has not lost in the last two years.

The JV girls fell 2-3.

Shianna Corley played No. 1 singles and defeated Hannah Gandy 7-6(7-3), 7-6(7-3).

At No. 2 singles, Carey Tyler loss to Cassidy Croft 4-6, 3-6.

Tanna Knight fell at No. 3 singles, 4-6, 4-6.

At No. 1 doubles, Faith Hall and Heather Dunn lost to Kyra Williams and Madison Roberts, 3-6, 4-6.

The No. 2 doubles team of Lauren Coop and Mary Margaret Lewis got Colquitt County’s other point with a 6-7(8-10) 6-3, 10-7 victory over Zoey Ridge and Kylee Lindsey.

In extra matches, Nakia Johnson lost 4-6, 6-3, 7-10; Macy Ward and Nakia Johnson lost to Maggie Sterling and Maggie Byrd 3-6, 3-6; and Fatehah Thomas and Vicky Davis defeated Angela Premas and Ane Mohanty 6-3, 6-7(5-7), 10-5.

“They had some close matches,” Coach Holly Lewis said. “I was very proud of how they all played. I have seen a lot of improvement over the season.”

Those were the final JV matches of the season.
