MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County High girls softball team had to go to Douglas to do it, but finally got its first Region 1-AAAAA victory of the season on Thursday, defeating Coffee 6-4.

The Lady Packers got a tie-breaking single by Jana Harvin to drive in Aubrey Perryman with the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning.

Caitlin Carr drove in Bria Wallace with a sacrifice fly for an insurance run.

“The girls played their hearts out,” said coach Carman Phillips. “Everybody was really in it.”

The victory raises the middle school girls record to 8-7-1.

The Lady Packers are now 1-2 in the Region 1-AAAAA standings. Colquitt has lost region games to Houston County and Warner Robins.

Thursday’s game started late after the junior varsity game before it went eight innings.

A rain delay further held up the game.

The game was tied 4-4 after the fourth inning and neither team could score in the fifth or sixth inning before the Lady Packers got the game-winning rally in the top of the seventh inning.

Starting pitcher Christy Harper went the distance for Colquitt County.

She gave up seven hits and struck out three.

Maggie Davidson continued her good work at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a walk. Wallace also had three hits.

Meagan May had two hits and Harper, Perryman, Harvin, Brooke Hood and Kaley Clark had the others.

The Lady Packers will play at Valdosta on Monday to make up a game rained out on Aug. 26.

On Tuesday, the Lady Wildcats will visit Packer Park. Only the Tuesday game will count in the region standings.

Valdosta is making some noise in region softball this season and already has a victory over Tift County to its credit.

The Colquitt County junior varsity team saw its five-game winning streak come to end with an 8-7, eight-inning loss.

Harvin pitched the first two innings, striking out one.

Hannah Hancock pitched the final six innings, striking out nine.

Allie McCracken had two hits and Harvin, Hancock, Blanca Fuentes, Anna Laura Beason, Stephanie Blair and T.K. Courtney each had one hit for the JV Lady Packers.

The JV team will not play Monday and Tuesday, since Valdosta did not field a junior varsity team.

The Colquitt County varsity and junior varsity will play host to Northside-Warner Robins on Thursday, Sept. 18, at Packer Park.
