MOULTRIE - The Colquitt County High football team has lost its second-straight defensive coordinator to the University of South Alabama in Mobile.

It has been reported that Tracy Buckhannon will join the Jaguars staff to coach the linebackers.

Buckhannon will join the staff led by defensive coordinator Travis Pearson, who Buckhannon replaced at Colquitt County in 2013.

Colquitt County has now lost three coaches from the staff that led the Packers to a 15-0 record and the Class AAAAAA state championship last season.

Running backs coach and strength and conditioning coordinator Zach Grage has accepted the position as head coach at Gilmer County.

And although it has not been finalized, defensive line coach Shelton Felton is apparently leaving to become head coach at his alma mater, Crisp County.

Buckhannon joined the Packers staff three years ago, serving as the safeties coach in 2013. When Pearson left, he became the defensive coordinator and held the job for the last two years as Colquitt County went a combined 26-3.

In 2013, the Packers gave up just 174 points in 14 games, including just 47 in four preseason games.

Before coming to Moultrie, Buckhannon was the defensive coordinator the previous seven seasons at Elmore County in Electra, Ala., where Pearson was the head coach.

An Auburn graduate, Buckhannon also was the assistant girls basketball coach Huntingdon University in Montgomery, Ala.

The South Alabama program was started seven years ago and made it first bowl appearance last season under head coach Joey Jones.

Packers three-year starting linebacker Bull Barge has signed to play at South Alabama.
