The Moultrie YMCA’s level 6/7 gymnasts recently travelled to Chattanooga, Tenn., to compete in the 2019 Regionals.

The meet was held at the Chattanooga Convention Center of downtown Chattanooga.

Ultimate Gym Sports of Duluth, Ga., hosted the event.

“The athletes qualify to Regionals by a percentage,” said Coach Bob Swadel. “There were 131 spots for level 6 and 115 spots for level 7. I was proud to know that 3 out of the 5 gymnasts we took to state qualified to Regionals. This is a big accomplishment.”

Nyla Thompson competed in the first session for the MGs of the weekend on Saturday.

She placed 7th on vault with a 9.2 and 8th on beam with a 9.0. She also scored a 9.5 on floor and a 9.075 on bars. Her AA for the meet was a 36.775 for 7th place in her age group.

Becca Clayton competed on Sunday morning. She placed 5th on vault with a 9.025 and scored a 9.225 on floor. She finished the meet with a 34.975.

Jacey Williams competed in the Sunday night session for the weekend. She scored a 9.2 on vault and a 9.25 on floor. She placed 8th on bars with an 8.8 and finished with a 35.90 AA.

“All 3 of these girls finished their season with one to remember,” said Coach Bria Blakely.

“For a couple, this was their first Regional meet. I was happy to see them on the awards podium and glad they were able to finish on a high note.

“Our next big meet will be YMCA Nationals in June that will be held in Wisconsin Dells, WI. The girls will begin training to prepare for that meet.”
