TIFTON – When it comes to taking part in a swimming field that involves the Tiftarea Tidal Wave, the real battle truly is for second place.
And second place is what the Moultrie Sharks claimed Saturday in the Tifton Invitational held at the Baldwin Dr. Aquatic Center.
Tiftarea Tidal Wave, as usual, waved past everybody by scoring 3,225 points. At a distant second were those Sharks with 1,953, and that was more than enough to stand ahead of Thomasville YMCA at 1,516.5.
There were a total of 12 teams involved, including the Fitzgerald Fins (77), Swim Macon (661), Vidalia (358.5 and two teams from Valdosta, the Piranhas (293) and Aquatics (289).
The one high point winner for the Sharks was in 6 & Under Boys ‑ Tlanepantla, Luis, 60 points. He won the 25 backstroke (31.51), breaststroke (48.83), free (27.52)

In relay swimming:
Boys 10 & under 100-yard freestyle (Jacob Medders, Griffin Newman, Hayden Tillman and Henry Tillman) won (1:13.25).
Boys 12 & under 200-yard freestyle (John Brady Tillman, Jake Jimmerson, JT Underwood and Carter Newman) won (2:13.63).
Boys 10 & under 100-yard medley (Christopher Hernandez, Henry Tillman, Hayden Tillman and Jacob Medders) won (1:34.91).
Other event winners from Moultrie include Dixon Underwood, 7-8 boys, in the 100-yard individual medley (2:11.59), Sarah Smith in the 25-yard backstroke (39.04), Hernandez in the 50 free (44.83) and Gregory in the 50-yard breaststroke (33.5).
