The Colquitt County middles school boys soccer team defeated Tift County 2-0 on Thursday in a battle of undefeated teams at Packer Park.
“We played above and beyond what any middle school team should be,” said Coach Brad Braswell.
“Our communication was top-notch. We had great defensive pressure and communication and we controlled the midfield.
“I can’t tell you how proud I am of them.”
The middle school Packers got the only goal they would need with 1:52 left when Jose Moreno scored on a shot from outside the 18. Ruben Gonzalez assisted.
Abram Sanchez scored the second goal in the second half. Moreno got the assist.
The Colquitt County boys will be the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament, which will be played in Moultrie on March 28-29.
The Packers are 11-0 and have allowed just three goals.
They have nine shutouts and have not allowed a score in their last seven matches.
The middle school girls were not as fortunate.
They ran up an undefeated Lady Devils team that had not given up a goal all season and fell 9-0.
Tift County led 6-0 at the half.
Colquitt will go into the conference tournament as the No. 3 seed.
The Lady Packers are 5-4-2 overall.
“They are well-coached and well-skilled,” Colquitt County girls coach Ashley Hill said of Tift County. “But our girls gave all they had. They didn’t quit and that’s all you can ask.”
