After a loss and a tie in their last two matches following a 4-0 start, the Colquitt County middle school Packers were eager to get back on track when they traveled to Thomas County on Thursday.
And they did just that, scoring a goal in each half and pitching their fifth shuout of the season for a 2-0 victory.
The middle school Lady Packers lost for the first time this season when the Lady Jackets scored a goal in waning seconds for a 1-0 victory.
The middle school girls are now 5-1-1.
The middle school Packers also sport the same record after Thursday’s shutout.
Bryan Gallardo got the Packers first half goal with Paulino Munoz getting the assist.
Isaac Malagon got the second half goal with Jared Brown assisting.
After the 2-0 loss to Coffee and 1-1 tie with Hahira, “we didn’t get down,” coach Ashley Hill said.
“We had some good practices this week.”
Hill said the team’s defense and midfield performed admirably against the Yellow Jackets.
He was especially pleased with the play of Brown Nic Johnson, Richard Esparza, Jonathan Cruz and Luis Martinez.
The game was the 101st since Hill began coaching eight years ago.
The middle school teams will travel to play Valdosta on Saturday in pair of matches that were postponed last Saturday.
That will be the teams’ final road trip.
Their final three matches — against Pine Grove, Tift County and Brooks County — will all be at Packer Park.
And the conference tournament, scheduled for March 30-31, also is scheduled for Packer Park.
