MOULTRIE — Tyler Key shot a 1-under par 71 to  take low medalist honors and lead the Colquitt County middle school golf team to 15-shot victory in the Baby Trojan Invitational held Tuesday at Douglas County Club.

The youngest Packers turned in a 310, leaving Hahira in the dust with a 325.

Tift County was third with a 336. The Blue Devils were followed by Coffee, with a 374; Valdosta, a 398; and Pine Grove, with a 433.

The Packers also got season-low scores from Braden Traylor and McKenzie Blanchett, each of whom shot a a 79. Eli Stripling had an 80.

Also playing for Colquitt County were Quint Pitts, who had a 92, and Matthew Zember, who had a 112.

Packers coach Matt Key said he was pleased with the effort, but hated that because of spring break, the team will not play again April 15.


The Colquitt County varsity girls finished fourth in the Lady Devil Invitational held Monday at Spring Hill Country Club in Tifton.

The Lady Packers got an 89 from Jaycee Eunice and a 95 from Marin Hanna for a 184, which left them just two strokes out of third place.

Tift County was first with a 165 and Thomas County Central was second with a 170. Lee County shot 182.

Also for the Lady Packers, Mallory Howren shot a 98 and Audrey White had a 102.

On Tuesday, the Lady Packers shot an 89 in a nine-hole match against Coffee at Sunset Country Club. Eunice shot a 42 and Hanna had a 47 to count for the Lady Packers. Coffee shot a 115.

Also for the Lady Packers, Howren and White each had a 51 and Abi Bishop and Florence Balckom each had a 64.

For the middle school team, Taylor Marie Griner had a 45, Hanna Friedlander and 46 and Allison Fagan a 58.
