The Colquitt County middle school boys and girls tennis teams swept their matches over Pine Grove and Valdosta on Wednesday in Valdosta and both will take perfect conference records into Saturday’s South Georgia Athletic Conference tournaments, which also will be played in Valdosta.
The round robin tournaments will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday with all six teams participating.
The boys tournament will be played at Lowndes High. The girls will play at McKey Park.
The teams will play six-game pro sets with tie breaks at six-games all.
The Colquitt County girls did not lose a game in their 5-0 victory over Pine Grove on Wednesday.
Courtney Terrell at No. 1 singles, Anna Barber at No. 2 and Rachel Bostick at No. 3 all won 6-0.
Both the No. 1 doubles team of Haley Trebony and Camille Kirkland and the No. 2 team of Avery Barber and Rebecca Ward also won 6-0.
In an extra doubles match, Tanna Knight and Shianna Corley won 4-1.
Terrell, Anna Barber and Bostick each won 6-0 again in the victory Valdosta. Trebony and Kirkland were tested, but won 7-5. Ward and Avery Barber won 6-0 again.
Knight and Corley won their extra doubles match 4-1.
The middle school boys beat Pine Grove 4-1. The Packers only loss was at No. 1 singles where Cody Jenkins fell 6-7(3-7).
John Buck Eunice won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, and Cory Glow won 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
Micah Edwards and Lance Shealy won at No. 1 doubles 6-1, and Drew Davis and Jeremy Johnson won at No. 2 doubles 6-0.
Ashton Owens won his extra match 6-0.
The middle school Packers had little trouble with Valdosta.
Jenkins won 6-0; Eunice won 6-1; and Glow won by forfeit.
Edwards and Shealy won 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Davis and Owens played No. 2 doubles and also won 6-0.
Johnson played an extra singles match and won 5-0.
