MOULTRIE -- The Colquitt County middle school tennis teams swept their opening matches over Hahira on Tuesday.

Both the girls and boys teams won 3-2.

The girls team won at No. 2 singles, where Katy Weilbrenner won over Lynda Taylor 6-2; at No. 1 doubles, where Jessica Harvin and Christin Smith defeated Stephanie Green and Emily Rhodes 6-0; and at No. 2 doubles, where Dresden Melton and Leah Eunice defeated Heather Bickerton and Alex Crowder 6-0.

The girls team lost at No. 1 singles, where Kate Reeves fell to Mary Beth Hansen 1-6, and at No. 3 singles, where Laura Murphy fell to Shelly Hobart 5-6.

In extra girls matches, the doubles team of Ashton Eunice and Cara McCalley lost 1-6; Meghan Traylor and Bethany Bradley won 6-3; Kayla Kelley and Carli Hester won 6-3; and Lauren Hall and Lauren Stripling won 6-3.

Colquitt's boys won at No. 2 singles where Chris Harvin won over Eli Rountree 6-3.

Colquitt also won at No. 1 doubles with Zach Clifton and Zach Owen winning over Tanner Darby and Chip Osborne 6-0, and at No. 2 doubles, where Seth Whitaker and Nathan Yost won over Clay Robinson and Sam Robinson.

In extra doubles matches, Colquitt's Ryan Sherling and Jacob Tompkins fell 4-6, and Marco Mata and Brandon Plymel fell 0-6.

Blake Jenkins lost 2-6 in a singles match.
