The Colquitt County High golf team shot its second straight 308 on Monday to win the Lee County Trojan Invitational at Grand Island Golf Club in Albany.
The Packers got a 75 from Lee Wright, a 76 from Seth Williams, a 78 from Von Stripling and a 79 from Davis Edwards.
Bowen Aguero shot an 83, but did so using coach Donald Dale’s clubs after his were locked in the Sunset Country Club clubhouse.
“It was a good day,” Dale said. “Lee and Seth are getting their scores down where we want them.”
The Packers edged Region 1-AAAAA foe Coffee by one shot for the tournament title.
Veterans High of Warner Robins was third with a 315 and and Warner Robins was fourth at 318.
Tournament host Lee County was fifth with at 327. The Trojans were followed by Tift County, 340; Thomas County Central, 345; Worth County, 347; Valdosta, 357; Bainbridge, 374; and Upson-Lee, 410.
Colquitt County also shot a 308 on on Saturday to finish second in the Coffee High Trojan Invitational at Douglas Country Club.
The varsity Packers will play again next Monday in the Green Island Invitational in Columbus.
The Colquitt County junior varsity boys will play Pelham on Wednesday at Sunset Country Club.
Lady Packers third
The Colquitt County girls also played at Green Island on Thursday in the Lady Trojan Invitational and finished third with a 169.
The Lady Packers counted an 81 from Taylor Marie Griner and an 88 from Marin Hanna.
Also playing for the Colquitt County girls were Mallory Howren, who shot 97, and Hanna Friedlander, who had a 102.
Tift County was first, turning in a 77 and an 81 for a 158. Thomas County Central was second with a 159.
Also playing were Houston County, which shot 173; Lee County 194; Veterans, 209; and Warner Robins and Northside-Warner Robins, neither of which finished.
Middle school boys second
The Colquitt County middle school boys golf team placed second in a four-team match against Tift County, Cook and Pine Grove on Monday at Spring Hill Counry Club in Tifton.
Tift County was first with a 169. The Blue Devils top six players shot 40, 43, 43, 44, 44, 43.
The middle school Packers were 19 shots back.
Braden Traylor led the Packers with a 36. Tyler Scott had a 48; Ty Hall, a 50; and Matthew Zember, a 52.
Also playing for Colquitt County were Tyler Spires, who had a 55, and Payton Clark, who shot 58.
Cook was third with a 226 and Pine Grove was fourth at 229.
“My guys didn’t play real well,” said Colquitt County coach Matt Key. “You could see the rust of being off for a week.”
But the middle school Packers will be right back out on the course today as Colquitt County plays host to the Baby Packer Invitational at Sunset Country Club.
Seven teams — Colquitt, Tift, Lowndes, Coffee, Hahira, Valdosta and Pine Grove — are expected to take part. Play will begin at 12:45 p.m.
