MOULTRIE — The new Colquitt County seventh-grade baseball team dropped its season-opener on Wednesday, losing on the road to Hahira 17-11.

“We hit the baseball good,” said middle school coach Will Southwell. “We just didn’t do our part on defense. We were plagued by errors.

“We just don’t have any game experience.”

Braden Flinchum and sixth-grader Kodi Bishop each had a pair of doubles for the seventh-grade Packers.

Warren Funderburk had two singles.

Kevin Hall, Wesley Singletary and Tristan Frazier had the other hits.

Kyle Ashley started on the mound and went the first inning.

Beau Dalton pitched three innings of relief.

Ryan Pipkin threw the final two innings.

The Colquitt County eighth-grade and seventh-grade teams will play a doubleheader against Worth County on Friday at the Knuck McCrary Complex.

The eighth-grade game will start at 4:30 p.m.

The seventh-grade game will start at about 6:30 p.m.
