MOULTRIE — Hayes Sumner and Brooks Henry of Colquitt County Mat Hawgs wrestling club won all three of their matches by pin to win championships in the Michael Gay Memorial Wrestling Tournament held last weekend in Dublin.

George Zeanah and Austin Hunnicutt each finished as a runner-up.

Hart Sumner turned in a third place finish and William Henry and Charlie Zeanah each finished fourth.

Cage Owens was fifth and Blake Tiller won sixth.

Also competing for the Mat Hawgs were Caden Summerlin and Hunter Yarbrough.

“We continue to get better each week and that’s what we’re supposed to do,” said Mat Hawgs coach Kevin Sumner.

The team will compete in one more tournament before the state qualifier, which will be held Feb. 27.

“We are working hard on not allowing our opponents to score and controlling our matches better,” Sumner said. “These two components are very important to the success of the match.

“I realize this is hard for the kids to understand, but when they get it, they will be very hard to beat.

“I have a great group. They work hard and it shows every time they wrestle.”
