MOULTRIE -- The Colquitt County girls tennis team, newly ranked at No. 10 in the state in the GaSports.com poll, lived up to its billing on Wednesday, defeating Lowndes 4-1 in Valdosta.

Despite a lineup shuffled because doubles player Gracie Qurnell was sick, the Lady Packers defeated the Vikettes for the second time this season to raise their overall record to 12-2-1 and their region mark to 8-1.

"I felt like we really have come together as a team," coach Linda Berl said.

"We played real well. And that's what you want with the region tournament coming up."

Lindsay Jacobs returned to No. 1 singles and won over Lacey Hanson 6-0, 6-0. Monique Murphy at No. 2 singles, but played well, Berl said, in a 3-6, 5-7 loss. Landi Clark got her first singles win, taking care of Mison Keen 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

With Qurnell out, Elizabeth Singley and Anne Yearta played No. 1 doubles and won over Leah Taylor and Savannah Roberts 7-6(7-5), 6-2.

And Amber Eunice and Jessica Harvin teamed up at No. 2 doubles and beat Jamie Futch and Lauren Godwin 6-1, 6-3.

In a pair of extra matches, Savanna Lamon and Christin Smith won their doubles match 8-6. Megan Traylor and Dresden Melton also won 8-6.

"Everybody really stepped up today," Berl said.

Colquitt's boys fell to 9-6 overall and 6-3 in the region with a 1-4 loss to the Vikings.

The Lowndes boy defeated the Packers 5-0 last month.

The Packers were able to salvage one point on Wednesday when Brian Michie defeated Matt Odom 7-6, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.

Michie lost to Odom in three sets last month.

"That was a very good match for Brian," coach Remi Tessier said.

At No. 1 singles, Colquitt's Taylor Dekalb lost to Mikey Milner 0-6, 2-6. Tyler Tucker lost to Andrew Odom 2-6, 0-6 at No. 3 singles.

At No. 1 doubles, Zach Owen and Bradley Michie fell 1-6, 2-6.

At No. 2 doubles, Austin York and Brent Allen lost 2-6, 3-6 to Ben Galloway and Clayton Griffin.

The Colquitt County tennis teams will meet Lincoln High of Tallahassee in a non-region match beginning at about 4:45 p.m. today.

Colquitt will play host to Tift County at 4 p.m. Monday in its final match before the region tournament.
